Anesthesiology

The Department of Anesthesiology at the Caucasus Medical Centre plays a pivotal role in the effective functioning of the inpatient and outpatient departments of the hospital. The Department is staffed by a team of highly qualified and experienced doctors and offers:

• Pre-operative assessment of the patient, which includes: pre-operative preparation, implementation of pertinent tests for the particular disease, assessment of the patient's health condition in relation to a particular operation and the subsequent post-operative period, assessment of potential risks;
• Development of an individualized surgical preparation plan, if necessary;
• Management of the operational period;
• Post-operative pain management and chronic pain prevention;
• With the help of a staffed team, supervision by an appropriately qualified personal anaesthetist (focusing on the post-operative state) in the immediate post-operative period.

Based on the above, the Department of Anaesthesiology, using all components of modern multimodal analgesia, plays an important role in the management of post-operative pain and the prevention of chronic pain after surgery.

Also, in addition to inpatient perioperative (pre-operative, operative and post-operative) services of any complexity, the Anaesthesia Service also provides following outpatient services by physicians trained in outpatient anaesthesia:

• Anaesthesia for outpatient procedures;
• Post-anaesthesia management and patient monitoring prior to discharge;

More specifically, the following services are included in outpatient anaesthesia:

• Anaesthesia/sedation for endoscopic procedures (transesophageal echocardiography, oesophagogastroduodenoscopy, etc.) and biopsy;
• Anaesthesia/sedation for CT, MRI, etc.

When planning any surgical procedure, the patient must consult with an anaesthetist who will develop a specific perioperative plan and determine all necessary measures to minimize the risks associated with the operation.
