The Endoscopy Centre

The Endoscopy Department at the Caucasus Medical Center is equipped with the latest-generation equipment, sterilization devices and the highest quality materials required for endoscopic manipulation procedures.

The following procedures are performed in the endoscopy department:

  • Examinations confirming the diagnosis;
  • Treatment using endoscopic techniques;
  • If necessary, taking biopsy material (biopsy specimen).

High-tech endoscopes provide superior visualization of the mucosa with the so-called NBI mode, which allows the tumor to be detected at the initial, in situ stage, thus ensuring optimal patient recovery through subsequent, precise treatment.

The Department performs the following types of diagnostic tests:

  • Esophagogastroduodenoscopy - an endoscopic examination of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum;
  • Colonoscopy - an endoscopic examination of the colon and rectum;
  • Bronchoscopy - an endoscopic examination of the airways.

In accordance with international guidelines, a team of highly qualified doctors offers the following services:

  • Treatment of esophageal pathologies, strictures developed as a result of chemical burns with Balloon dilatation technique (expansion) and bougie dilation;
  • Esophageal stenting for strictures;
  • Treatment of cardiospasm and achalasia using dilatation and injection techniques;
  • Treatment of Barrett's esophagus;
  • Polypectomy (removal of polyps from the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, colon and rectum by endoscopic methods);
  • Extraction (removal) of foreign bodies;
  • Endoscopic variceal ligation;
  • Stopping bleeding by various endoscopic methods;
  • Gastrostomy (procedure is performed when the esophageal tube is obstructed, with the aim of introducing food and liquid directly into the stomach).
  • Papillotomy (endoscopic resection of major duodenal papilla (where the common bile duct and pancreatic duct enter the duodenum));
  • Biliary and pancreatic stenting.

In hospital, endoscopic procedures are performed under general anaesthetic to minimise patient discomfort.

There are a number of symptoms that should prompt you to consult a doctor, including:

  • Difficulty swallowing;
  • Substernal pain accompanied by difficulty swallowing;
  • Nausea;
  • Heartburn;
  • Vomiting with dark brown content or blood and blood clots;
  • Epigastric (upper region of the abdomen) pain;
  • Tarry stools (Melena);
  • Blood in stool;
  • Yellow Skin (Jaundice).

In addition, the Caucasus Medical Centre participates in the free state screening programme and, in order to detect and prevent diseases in time, it performs colonoscopy on patients aged 50 to 70 in case of a positive fecal occult blood test to determine the pathology of the large intestine.
