PATIENT AND THEIR FAMILIES RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CHILDREN RIGHTS

 

1. The right to be informed in writing of all their rights and responsibilities in an understandable and simple language.

 

2. The right to receive medical services that is respectful and considerate of the patient’s dignity and self-worth and corresponding to the professional and service standards recognized and implemented in the country.

 

3. The right to receive high quality and equal care with kindness and respect regardless of race, age, religion, gender, national origin, physical or mental disability or sexual orientation. Discrimination is not allowed for any reason.

 

4. The right of patients, and in some circumstances the right of the patient’s family, preferences to determine what information regarding their care would be provided to family or others, and under what circumstances.

 

5. The right of respect of their personal values and beliefs and responds to routine and complex requests related to spiritual and religious support.

 

6. The right of privacy and respect their privacy for all clinical interviews, examinations, procedures/treatments, and transport.

 

7. The right of confidentiality of patient information according to laws and regulations and patients are requested to grant permission for the release of information not covered by laws and regulations.

 

8. The right to receive information about the hospital’s responsibility for protecting personal belongings and the safeguarded of patients’ possessions when the hospital assumes responsibility or when the patient is unable to assume responsibility.

 

9. The right of protection from verbal abuse and physical assault, and identifying populations at risk and protecting them from additional vulnerabilities.

 

10. The right to facilitate of a patient’s request to seek a second opinion without fear of compromise to their care within or outside the hospital.

 

11. The right to be informed about their medical conditions and any confirmed diagnosis, the proposed treatment(s), including the name of the physician providing the treatment, potential benefits and drawbacks, possible alternatives, the likelihood of success, possible problems related to recovery, and possible results of non-treatment, the estimated cost of treatment to be able to make care decisions.

 

12. The right to be informed about which tests and treatments require written informed consent by signing the informed consent form (after being informed and understanding of the content of the consent and providing translator when needed).

 

The procedures/tests that require written informed consent are:

 

All types of surgical procedures; 

  • Hospital Admission
  • Cardiac catheterization; 
  • Transesophageal Echocardiogram;
  • Biopsy aspiration by needle; 
  • Radiological imaging with contrast; 
  • Hospital Admission; 
  • Procedural sedation including moderate and deep sedation; 
  • Endoscopy procedures; 
  • Medical Photographs – Including Videography and Cinematography
  • All ophthalmic refractive surgeries and procedures;
  • All types of anesthesia including general, regional, or local anesthesia;
  • Aspirating body fluids by needle except blood arterial/venous blood specimens;
  • Central line insertion including arterial and venous;
  • Use of chemotherapeutic medications;
  • Any other high-risk treatment/invasive procedure;
  • Participation in clinical research and use of investigational medications;

 

13. The right to be informed about the expected and unanticipated outcomes of care and treatment and who is responsible for informing. 

 

14. The right to be informed about their right to participate in care decisions to the extent they wish. 15. The right to refuse or discontinue treatment after signing the refusal form which include information about alternatives, the risks and the complications resulting from refusal.

 

16. The right to receive professional and appropriate assessment and management of pain with staff understanding of the personal, cultural, and societal influences on the patient’s experiences with pain.

 

17. The right of assessment and management of the dying patient’s needs with hospital staff understanding the personal, cultural, and societal influences on the patient’s experiences with death and dying.

 

18. The right to express their will (consent/refusal) in advance, in writing when patient is found unconscious or when he/she loses the ability to make a conscious decision about the implementation of resuscitation or life-sustaining or palliative treatment, which will be caused by terminal stage of an incurable disease or a disease that will inevitably lead to severe disability.

 

16. The right to receive professional and appropriate assessment and management of pain with staff understanding of the personal, cultural, and societal influences on the patient’s experiences with pain.

 

CHILDREN RIGHTS

 

1. Children will not be subjected to any medical treatment without prior consent from a parent, legal guardian, or the court system. The only exception to this is in the event of an emergency, when treatment would begin immediately. 

 

2. Children have the right to have their parent or legal guardian serve as their advocate. 

 

3. The right to be provided with suitable environment that help in adaptation during treatment in the hospital. 

 

4. The right of compliance of healthcare providers to report all types of child abuse/neglect to the concerned authority.

 

PATIENT AND THEIR FAMILIES RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Presenting personal identification;
  • Full disclosure of patient health information;
  • Cooperation during examinations and procedures;
  • Respect for the organization’s staff and other patients;
  • Respect the hospital No Smoking,visiting hours, and prevention and control of infection, and environmental care policies;
  • Providing accurate and complete information about the patient’s health insurance;
  • Compliance with instructions for self-care by the patient,  including taking medications and attending follow-up appointments and notifying the hospital when the patient is unable to do so for any reason;
  • Ensuring that the due financial obligations are fulfilled promptly;
  • Preserving the properties of the hospital and others;
  • Using the facilities and equipment in the hospital safely and correctly;
  • Implementing the hospital transfer or discharge decisions.
