Biography

Doctor of Medicine (MD), specialist in anesthesiology and critical care, Vasil Balakhashvili is the Head of the Critical Care Department at the Caucasus Medical Center, as well as an anesthesiologist and intensivist. He joined the team in March 2026.

Vasil Balakhashvili holds state licenses in anesthesiology and intensive care, pediatric anesthesiology, and pediatric intensive care. He has obtained international certifications in key areas such as emergency trauma and cardiac life support (ATLS, ACLS, BLS), ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia, and transthoracic echocardiography (FATE).

Over the years, he has been engaged in clinical practice in multinational professional environments across various countries, where he managed critically ill patients in resource-limited settings in accordance with international standards. The doctor has actively participated in medical quality control processes and the implementation of modern clinical protocols.

Due to his active professional work, Vasil Balakhashvili is a member of several reputable international organizations, including:

  • Since 2019 — Member of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM);
  • Since 2019 — Member of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC);
  • Since 2022 — Member of the Georgian Association of Critical Care Medicine.

Since 2022, he has been a visiting lecturer at Grigol Robakidze University, where he teaches anesthesiology and intensive care courses to English-speaking students. Previously, from 2010 to 2015, he was involved in teaching at the Department of Clinical Skills at Tbilisi State Medical University. In 2023, he completed a specialized course in leadership and teamwork at the European Institute of Leadership and Management.

At the Caucasus Medical Center, Vasil Balakhashvili provides patients with a full range of anesthesiology and critical care services, including management of critical conditions (sepsis, trauma, respiratory failure), perioperative assessment, and safe anesthetic support for surgical procedures in accordance with international guidelines.
