The team of highly qualified doctors of the Dermatology Department of the Caucasus Medical Centre provides patients with diagnosis and treatment of skin and skin appendage pathologies.

The Dermatological Unit uses the most modern approaches and research technology to perform the following procedures:

  • Diagnosis of the skin and its appendages - inspection;
  • Dermoscopy (non-invasive examination method using a dermoscope);
  • Trichoscopy (dermoscopy of the hairy scalp);
  • Onychoscopy (dermoscopy of the nail);
  • Intradermal glucocorticoid injection (to treat Alopecia areata and scarring);
  • Cryotherapy (removal of skin growths using liquid nitrogen);
  • Electrocoagulation (removal of skin growths with an electric knife);
  • Different types of laboratory and instrumental tests;
  • Skin biopsy (removal of skin sample by the Punch method and further pathomorphological examination).

In accordance with international guidelines and protocols, following diseases are treated in the Department:

  • Acne (a papulopustular and comedonal eruption on the face, back and chest, which is mainly associated with a hormonal imbalance);
  • Psoriasis and other autoimmune skin diseases (pathological conditions that damage the skin, scalp, nails,  joints);
  • Bullous diseases (diseases involving blistering and erosion of the skin and mucous membranes)
  • Change in skin colour - Loss of pigment or hyperpigmentation (hypo, hyper and depigmentation);
  • Dermatitis (allergic inflammatory skin disease with itching and rashes);
  • Connective tissue disorders (manifested by skin thinning, atrophy, fibrosis and general symptoms);
  • Bacterial, viral and fungal diseases of the skin and its appendages (manifested by itching, pain and general symptoms);
  • Nail damage (thickening, splitting, unhealthy colour, structural changes depending on the cause);
  • Hair loss (thinning of the hair in various places, itching, peeling, dystrophic changes in the hair shaft);
  • Skin growths (benign, precancerous and malignant tumours).

It is important to be aware of the symptoms that should prompt you to seek medical attention in order to ensure early detection and effective treatment:

  • Any kind of rash and pathological changes in the skin and mucous membranes;
  • Itching, pain and burning of the skin;
  • Hair loss;
  • Changes in nail thickness, texture and colour;
  • Existence of any type of growth on the skin.

It is also important to have a scheduled skin screening once a year. However, depending on the nature of the problem, this time may be reduced. For instance, in cases where a patient has multiple moles, it is recommended that a dermoscopic examination be conducted at 6 month intervals. This approach is intended to minimize the potential for degeneration and atypia of the growths on the skin and appendages. Furthermore, it is imperative to acknowledge the pivotal role of a healthy lifestyle in preventive medicine.
